No gen. AI: A new trend among authors

I have noticed a trend on Bookstagram and beyond: Some authors have started creating (drawing, painting) their own artworks, for instance character portraits or illustrations. Even if they haven’t learned that so far, or are still in the process of learning. All of that is a counter-trend to AI-generated “artworks”

I have studied graphic design and illustration at college. And my first thoughts about that trend were that often the respective artworks look rather amateurish, sometimes as if drawn by children.
But hear me out … I have come to a different attitude about this. I’d rather see 100 amateurish artworks than the horrible artifical ugliness of AI-generated “art”.

And besides, I celebrate creative folks, like authors who venture off into other creative fields beside writing, and learn something new.
